This is a 2 hour talk by local historian Mark Ashmore. Mark has made a 10 year study of EB residents who fought during WW1 and WW2 and sadly lost their lives in the service of their country.
Before publishing a book on the subject Mark has been uploading the results of his research on the East Bergholt Society website, starting with the war records and personal stories of those involved in WW1, followed next by those involved in WW2.
This talk explains how he’s conducted this research, gathering information from the official channels and then village sources to establish and verify the local connections.
His work provides a valuable insight of the extraordinary events that led to the personal sacrifice these people made and how that reflected and reverberated in the rural community of a small Suffolk village.
