The Village pram race has been running for xx years and is an annual event, hosted the last May bank holiday each year.

Each pub in the village takes it in turn to host ‘pram race’ day.

2020 was the first year since it started in 19?? that this annual event had to be cancelled due to Covid-19 and no decision has been made as to if this will be reinstated in 2021, perhaps later in the year.

The hosting pub decides on the theme of the prams which over the years has seen West End Musicals, Fantasy and Fairytales, ???????

    The Pram Race was started by Edna and Jim Marshall , landlords of the Kings Head East Bergholt, in around 1974/5 in aid of their charity Turner Village Hospital and for the first few years it always started at the Head went round to H & H , Carriers, Beehive, Red Lion up the hill past the Head to White Horse then finish at the Head. After a few years the different pubs hosted in turn.

    Have more info in that I dont know when the first prize was given out for BEST FANCY DRESS but The Dicky has the one for 1984 to 2011ish. I will get the winners noted on their next time I am in and post details on here .

    Haven’t found the trophy for Best Fancy Dress from inception but found the one from 1984 to 2017 which is at the ROYAL OAK. The trophy used to go to various pubs and organisations but in the latter stages the Dicky dominated this part of the event.
